Travel troubles could ground what was supposed to be the happiest day in the lives of about a dozen brides-to-be.

The Edmontonians bound for Mexico yesterday were fit to be tied at Calgary International Airport after the Air Transat wedding holiday they were on was cancelled mid-flight because of mechanical failure, jeopardizing their plans to be married later this week.

Some engaged women were in tears while most were hopping mad as airline clerks told them they would be headed to their Cancun destination this morning, which many say is too late to allow them to tie the knot.

Janice Kuchera and at least 11 other engaged women with nuptials scheduled for Thursday have been told that under Mexican law they must be in the country at least 72 hours before they are allowed to be wed. Read
