Renting a car gives you the freedom to fully experience your surroundings. Like most popular vacation spots, Cancun has numerous car rentals shops to choose from. To make your life easier I have taken a look at a few online and compared weekly and daily prices for both economy class cars and Jeep Wrangler. In order to keep the searches as accurate as possible I used June 1st to June 8th 2008 as my search date. All prices are in USD and include taxes. Please keep in mind that these prices are subject to change and these prices should only be used as an example.

1. Auto-rental-cancun.com

These prices were the best I came across. To rent an economy class car for a week it would cost $211.20 and include unlimited milage, loss damage waiver (LDW), collision damage waiver (CDW), additional liability insurance (ALI), and personal accident insurance (PAI). If you are under 25 it would cost an additional $5 a day which would total a little less then $250. This car can be rented at about $30 a day.

For a Jeep Wrangler you should expect to pay around $55 a day or $369 with everything included (around $410 if you are under 25)

2. Econocarrental.com

An economy class car would cost $35 a day or $219 a week and included ALI, CDW, LDW, PAI, transportation to pick up the car, legal assistance, and two drivers would be permitted. An additional fee of $5 a day for drivers under 25.

A Jeep would cost $69 a day or $379 with the same features as above.

3. Caribetur.com

An economy car rented online from caribetur.com would cost around $36 a day or $218 a week. This includes CDW, unlimited mileage and taxes. By searching online I couldn’t find a figure for under 25 drivers and I didn’t see costs for additional insurance.

A Jeep Wrangle would cost $66 a day or $369 with the same included fees as above.

4. Budgetcancun.com

Turns out budget car wasn’t necessary for people on a budget. The weekly cost of an economy car with LDW, CDW, ALI, and PAI would cost $562.80

There were no prices available online for a Jeep.

5. Executive.com.mx

This site prices their economy cars at $9.99 a day but when you add insurance the prices increase incredibly. For an economy class car it would cost $164.07 for a week with unlimited milage, ALI and taxes or $572.48 for unlimited mileage, ALI, CDW, LDW and taxes.

A Jeep Wrangler costs $49.95 a day (without insurance) or $864.69 a week with ALI, CDW, LDW and taxes. Information regarding drivers under 25 wasn’t available online.

6. Cancunbestdealcarrental.com

If you are 25 or over, the price of renting an economy class car for a week is $277.20 with unlimited mileage, CTW, PAI, ALI, theft protection and taxes. If you are between 21 and 24 you have to pay an additional $15 a day, increasing the price to around $400.

A Jeep Wrangler rented for a week will cost about $507 if you are 25 years or older.

All that information may have been hard to digest so here is a comparison for a economy class car, for a 25 year old with unlimited mileage and all insurance coverages included.

1. Auto-rental-cancun.com: $211.20
2. Econocarrental.com: $219.00
3. Caribetur.com: $218 (only CDW and unlimited mileage)
4. Cancunbestdealcarrental.com: $277.20
5. Budgetcancun.com: $562.80
6. Executive.com.mx: $572.48

If you decide to rent a car make sure you check to see if you credit cards or air miles plan offers discounts on car rentals. Also, some credit cards may include car rental insurance which may save you a considerable amount of money.
